Day Two Giveaway

Today's interview and generous giveaway is from the Fab Rachel of My Tiny Robot Heart.

How many vintage sheets do you have right now? 

I have around five large laundry baskets full.  I seem to find about 3 or 4 or week to add to the collection, but I've been swapping like mad on Flickr and I'm having my first giveaway on my blog of vintage sheet scraps, and I've had 6 pajama pants cut out and ready to go.... I just haven't found the time to stitch them up yet.  So the sheets don't stay in queue too long, although I do have some that I just can't bear to cut into yet.

Any fun projects planned using VS?

Well I have the pajama pants that I would love to stitch up quick. I made a fun ruffle pillow and would like to make more, I have two twin sized quilt fronts in progress and if I'm daydreaming I dream of making some patchwork-y pajama bottoms, and patching the holes in my jeans with string quilt-y heart patches, and a string quilt for the hammock, and summer dresses for little friends..... I could go on and on!

How long have you been sewing?

I've been sewing off an on since Jr High, so like, uhm I'm going to give away my age here but since I was 12, so 27 years. The first thing I remember making was a little sewing kit, kind of like a placemat that rolls up and ties.  I just found it a few months ago at my grandmas house and brought it home.  It's hideous, terrible 80's maroon and teal paisley, but the stitching wasn't bad.

What or who inspired you to start sewing with VS's?

I flickrd this  and fell in love!  I remember seeing that quilt and blowing it up as big as I could get it on my monitor and staring at it.  Picking out all of the sheets that had been a part of my childhood... ones from my house, from grandmas, the brown modern ones my uncle had.  That quilt was a time capsule of my childhood.  From then on it wasn't like I really had a choice in collecting and making things from them, every time I found a familiar one there was some memory that went with it and I had to have it.

How long have you been collecting vs's?

I'm not sure exactly when, but that photo of Anne's was uploaded in February 2009, so it was right after that.  I have to say that I love collecting them!  I love the hunt of finding them.  I love walking into the thrift and seeing them as I walk up to rack.  I just grab everything that I like, kind of walking fast like a crazy, mad woman.  I then go back and inspect.  I am much pickier now about what I will bring home.  In the beginning I would just grab what I liked.  Now I try to buy only mint or near mint sheets.  I figure this one rule might slow me down.... just a little ;)

Do you have a fav vs print?

My favorite is this one .  It was on my bed when I was little and have only found one.  I can't bring myself to cut it up until I find another one just like it.  And every time I find an unusual one that I haven't seen in blog land or in my thrifting it will become my favorite, at least until the next favorite comes along!   

Any prints you are coveting at the moment?

I've seen pictures of an Asian looking one red with flowers and swirls that I love.  I want it (and I think a lovely blog friend is sending me a fq of it)!  There is a picture of it here  

Where do you find your VS's?

The very first one I found at a yard sale.  Oh, so it was April/May 2009 that I first started collecting them!  But that was the only one that I've found at a yard sale.  All of my others have been found at the local thrift stores.  I've seen plenty of pretty ones online that I would love to have, but then that would ruin the hunt and that tiny little thrill I get when I find one!  And I've just swapped a bunch with new friends on Flickr!
