I thought it would be fun to have a giveaway now that school is out for my kidos! And the lovely Anna of Rope has offered up a fab giveaway. So check out her interview and enter the giveaway.
How many vintage sheets do you have right now? I probably have 12-15 vintage sheets that have not been cut. (I had a great thrift score yesterday!) But if you count each different pattern that I have in my workroom, I have well over 100.
Any fun projects planned using VS? I am currently working on some flower brooches for a breast cancer fund raiser. I also just joined a vintage sheet quilting bee on flickr. It's the first bee I've been part of, and I can't wait to get started.
How long have you been sewing? I've been sewing since I was a little girl. I made crepe paper dresses for my Barbie dolls, and when my mom gave me my own sewing kit for my 7th birthday, there was no turning back. I studied for a while with a couture designer in Dallas, and made my wedding dress, but when it comes down to it, my favorite projects are the simple, made-with-love gifts. I haven't seen my wedding dress since I got married seven years ago, but I see my patchwork table runner every day.
What or who inspired you to start sewing with VS's? I have loved vintage sheets for a long time. My friend Amanda would invite me over to spend the night, and she'd make up her trundle bed with incredible old sheets from the hall closet. I've loved them ever since. (They also used those cool old towels with the chenille designs on them, but I haven't found a great use for those yet!)
How long have you been collecting vs's? I started actively searching out vintage sheets about three years ago. I wanted an inexpensive source of beautiful fabric to try my hand at quilting. Turns out, I now prefer vintage fabric over quilt-store fabric.
Do you have a fav vs print? Any time I see a great single-color stripe, I have to buy it. They are whimsical and sweet, and they come in some amazing colors.
Any prints you are coveting at the moment? Oh yeah. My all time favorite print so far is one I called "Mod Hourglass" in my shop. Even though I sold the fat quarters for $4 each (the normal price is $2.50) I sold out of it very quickly. When I realized it was almost gone, I saved the last little scraps for myself. I'm planning to make my daughter a doll quilt from it, but I hope to find that print again soon.
How long have you been selling VS's? I sold my first vintage fat quarter in February 2008. I started by making a new section in my shop, lassothemoon, but I soon realized that there was a real market for them, and decided to open a shop specifically for vintage fabric and supplies. Those first months were really fun, because I was one of the first selling them on etsy in small pieces, so I had a ton of business. Things have slowed a bit these days, but I'm still loving it.
Where do you find your VS's? I am always on the lookout for a new thrift store. We just moved back to the Dallas area from Indianapolis, so I'm still finding new places to shop for them. Antique stores and flea markets are okay, but a good, old-fashioned, junky thrift store is where I find the real treasures.
Now on to the giveaway!
Not only is she giving away this amazing FQ bundle she is offering 10% off if you mention The VS blog when checking out at her shop!
