Easy Vintage Curtain Apron Tutorial

Don't you love quick, easy and inexpensive gifts to make for your loved ones?

Introducing. . . .
The Curtain Apron

It's an apron that you make with a thrifted (or new) curtain. You just use the existing rod pocket as the waistband. You can probably make this apron in less than 15 minutes.

You'll need:
1  Curtain panel with rod pocket
1  17" piece of 1/2" elastic
Safety pin
2  36"x 4" strips of coordinating fabric for ties
pins, scissors and sewing machine

1. Choose a really cute curtain. I bought mine at an estate sale. You may have a kitchen curtain you'd like to retire or you may find a great one at a garage sale or on clearance somewhere.

2. Make your ties. Fold over your coordinating fabric strip lengthwise (right sides together) and sew the open sides 1/4" from the edge. Repeat with other strip.

3. Finish the ends. Flip the fabric strip right-side out and tuck one end in 1/2 inch inside and top-stitch shut. Leave the other end unfinished. Iron flat. Repeat with other fabric strip.

4.  Insert elastic into rod pocket. With a safety pin on one end of elastic piece, thread through top pocket of curtain, gathering as you go.

5. Connect your fabric ties to the elastic. Tuck each side of the elastic piece into the unfinished edge of each tie and sew to attach. Then, sew each end of the rod pocket closed. It helps to pin it in place.

There you go, the Curtain Apron.

Either put it on and get baking or wrap it up as a gift for someone who loves unique, homemade gifts.
